National Police Remembrance Day 2016 Commissioner's Scholarship, NSW

A 16-year-old legatee from Menai has been named the 2016 winner of the NSW Police Legacy Commissioner’s Scholarship, awarded by NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione, NSW Police say.

The recipient of the $5000 scholarship, Rebecca Dooley, became a legatee when her father, Senior Constable Mark Dooley, passed away in 2006, after a battle with cancer.

Snr Cst Dooley was attached to Campbelltown Local Area Command.

Commissioner Scipione presented the $5000 scholarship to Rebecca as a part of the National Police Remembrance Day commemorations.

"I’m proud to present this year’s scholarship to Rebecca who has a bright future ahead of her," Commissioner Scipione said.

"Rebecca is a motivated young woman with a passion for design. She sells some of her creations at weekend markets, while also working in the retail industry part-time.

"Rebecca, who is actively involved in Police Legacy activities with her family, will now have the opportunity to pursue her dreams knowing that the whole policing family are supporting her along the way," Commissioner Scipione said.

Rebecca is currently in year 11 at Aquinas Catholic College, Menai, where her favourite subjects are advanced English, as well as Community and Family Services.

After she graduates, Rebecca hopes to continue her studies and pursue a career in education or social work.

Snr Cst Dooley was survived by wife Karen, daughter Rebecca and her 19-year-old brother, Jack.
