Landholders across the state will soon have greater certainty about how native vegetation rules apply to their properties, with the Native Vegetation Regulatory (NVR) map to be published on 31 August 2026.
The NSW Government Environment Agency Head has made the decision that the Native Vegetation Regulatory (NVR) map applies from 31 August 2026 and the transitional period will end.
Native vegetation plays a critical role in supporting productive agriculture, protecting soils and water, and providing habitat for native wildlife. The NVR map helps balance these outcomes by showing where different management rules apply.
From this date, the map will apply across rural New South Wales, except in the Bland Shire Council and Temora Shire Council areas, where existing mapping arrangements will remain in place while the NSW Threatened Species Scientific Committee completes an independent review. This approach honours commitments made to local landholders.
The NVR map makes it easier for landholders to see exactly where regulations apply on their land and what approval pathways are available under the Land Management Code.

What this means for landholders
Before the NVR map is published on 31 August:
- Decisions to clear native vegetation must comply with land categories defined by the Local Land Services Act in place since 2017.
- Landholders can access and review both the draft and transitional NVR Map online or via the Check My Land NSW app to view the land categories on their property and understand where native vegetation clearing rules might apply.
