Neighbour thwarts break-in attempt, SA

A man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to break into a house at Glenunga this afternoon, according to SA Police.

Eastern Adelaide CIB detectives praised the efforts of a quick-thinking neighbour who spotted a man acting suspiciously in Queen Street, Glenunga about 4.45pm on Wednesday 18 January and alerted police.

The neighbour reported seeing a man wearing gloves enter the backyard of a premises via a side gate while the resident was watering the front garden. The witness confronted the man and managed to obtain photos of the suspect and his vehicle. The man allegedly threatened him before driving off.

Following investigations by police, a 48-year-old Glynde man was arrested this afternoon and charged with attempted serious criminal trespass and assault. He was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow.

South Australia Police launched Operation Subtract at the beginning of the year to combat a recent rise in break-ins across the metropolitan area. Residents are urged to be mindful of their home's security, even while they are out in the garden, as many break-ins and thefts are opportunistic.

Police are keen to speak to anyone in the Glenunga or Glenside area who has experienced any similar offences that have not yet been reported.
