Locals looking to enjoy a breezy summer kick-off can get along to Dalmeny's foreshore playground on Sunday 30 November. Dalmeny Summer Fest is set to be a relaxed, neighbourly event with live music and performances, market stalls, and face painting for the kids.
Running from 10am to 2pm on the usually quiet patch opposite the shops, organiser Felicity Patterson from Sandy Souls surf shop and café says they wanted something home grown to mark the start of summer.
"We love our community and wanted to celebrate Dalmeny style – relaxed and family friendly. The playground foreshore on Noble Parade is a stunning location, and just across the road from a range of shops and the supermarket – the kind of place locals naturally gravitate toward," says Felicity.
Other highlights include a festive photo backdrop for that essential Christmas Instagram post, a range of stalls with local makers and small businesses, the National Parks junior rangers and, a highlight, a puppy fashion parade so the famous dogs of Dalmeny can dress up for a shot at the best-dressed award – of course, any visiting pooch keen for the spotlight can get in on the action.
The event is supported by Eurobodalla Council in partnership with the Dalmeny shops as part of its small towns and villages activation program. Council's manager of economic development Teresa Lever says the program gives the shire's smaller communities a chance to shine during a usually quiet time of year.
"It's a great way for the business community to engage with residents, rather than the usual funding to attract visitors, and that's important too," says Teresa.
"We love this free, low-key event, rooted in local spirit. I'd encourage people to get along, meet up with friends to snap a photo or two, and relax to live music in the perfect summer setting."
