The cost of managing waste is rising much faster than council rates.
Monash is the only council in Victoria that hasn't introduced a separate waste charge. But to keep delivering the high-quality services our community relies on, we need to make a change. That's why we're proposing to introduce a separate waste charge on rates notices from July 2026.
This means Council rates will go down, and a separate charge will be added for properties that use our waste and recycling services. Pensioner Concession Card holders will receive a 40% discount, and we will also have a safety net for anyone who may need support during this change.
