The Northern Territory Government has launched Back a Territorian, a new campaign encouraging Territorians to support local businesses and buy local.
Small and medium enterprises make up 99 per cent of all Territory businesses, supporting local jobs, strengthening communities and keeping money circulating in the Territory economy.
The campaign is backed by Territory Procurement Champion Tom Harris, who will travel across the Territory to meet businesses and share their stories.
The Finocchiaro CLP Government is backing local businesses with the launch of the Back a Territorian campaign - putting the spotlight on the mum and dad operators, family-run businesses and locally owned enterprises that are the heart of the Territory economy.
Small and medium businesses make up 96 per cent of all Territory enterprises. They are the café serving the morning rush, the tradie keeping homes in good repair, the local retailer who has been part of the community for years. They create jobs, keep towns connected and are a critical part of the social and economic fabric of the Territory. When Territorians spend locally, that money stays in the Territory - supporting families, strengthening communities and building a stronger economy.
Phase one of the campaign launches this month across Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, radio, television and streaming services. Phase two will see Territory Procurement Champion Tom Harris travel across the Territory to meet with businesses in the regions, share their stories and reinforce the buy local message.
Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations, Robyn Cahill OAM, has urged Territorians to get off-line and get back to buying local, in-store.
"Local businesses keep our communities strong, create local jobs and help our towns stay vibrant and connected. When you buy local you are keeping Territorians in jobs, supporting local families and keeping money in the Territory."
"Following a difficult wet season, many businesses have shown real resilience. The best way to support them is simple - buy local."
Territory Procurement Champion Tom Harris said the campaign reflects what he sees travelling across the Territory every day.
"Small and medium sized businesses are the heart of the Territory economy, and I have met with many businesses doing remarkable things in their communities. If we want to grow our economy, we need to back our fellow Territorians."
