New chapter for Mornington Peninsula libraries – no more fines

MPSLogo_News.jpg

In a step to reduce barriers and build community connection, Mornington Peninsula Shire has discontinued library fines for overdue items and has abolished any existing fines from our systems.

Fines contradict the core purpose of public libraries – providing free and universal access to information.

More than ever, our community is reliant on being able to use library resources, reach a diverse range of literature information and participate in public programs.

We hope this decision will allow residents to feel comfortable in returning overdue items and see an increase in new and existing library members visiting our branches.

A reminder we are currently updating our library online system to make it even easier to access our collections and be reminded when items are overdue.

To allow these exciting new changes to take place, our libraries will be closed on Thursday 29 April 2021 to allow staff to complete the transfer to the new system. Library chutes will remain open.

The new online system will be up and running and ready to use on Friday 30 April 2021.
