Fourteen new Custodial Correctional Officers joined the ranks of Queensland Corrective Services on Friday on completion of a world-class training program.
They will all be assigned to join their colleagues at Lotus Glen Correctional Centre at Mareeba.
Queensland Corrective Services Commissioner Peter Martin APM, congratulated the graduates of the Custodial Officer Entry Level Program (COEP) for their hard work and commitment to keeping Queensland safe through their work on the front line of public safety.
Commissioner Martin welcomed the group into the corrective services field during a period of significant reform, and recognised their trainers, particularly considering the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
"All our officers undertake training to ensure they are prepared to take on the challenges of working in a correctional environment every day," Commissioner Martin said.
"It is an incredibly exciting time to be joining QCS as we all work together to make the community safe through our five guiding principles of Corrections 2030: safety, excellence, empowerment, accountability and respect.
"I expect all officers to use these guiding principles as a roadmap as we all continue to develop our culture and strive for best practice as a world class corrective service."
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the group will have their formal graduation ceremony at a later date.
Commissioner Martin encouraged others looking for a stable, interesting job with a wide variety of career paths and job opportunities throughout Queensland to 'take a look inside'.
"There has never been a better time to consider joining us as a top tier front line public safety agency as we strive to help transform lives and communities every day.
"I encourage Queenslanders to take a look inside to see if they are up to the challenge of a career in QCS.
"We are looking for passionate people from all walks of life who are interested in working at the very front line of public safety."
