New Council welcomes State Government confirmation of Glenroy Road level crossing removal

Moreland City Council welcomes the announcement from the State Government confirming the removal of the level crossing at Glenroy Road, Glenroy.

The announcement confirmed that the level crossing on the Craigieburn line will be removed by a rail trench solution by 2022.

"Council has long been advocating for the removal of this crossing and this is exciting news for our Glenroy community and the thousands of commuters who use Glenroy Station and the crossing every day," said Cr Natalie Abboud, Mayor of the City of Moreland.

"We look forward to receiving more information on this project and encourage the Level Crossing Removal Project to engage in a robust consultation process with our community, to deliver the best possible outcomes for Moreland."

In addition, the State Government announcement confirmed that a new Glenroy station will be built and the proposed solution will avoid the need for significant property acquisition.

"We are pleased that significant property acquisition will be avoided for our residents in Glenroy. We will continue to work with and on behalf of our community for the best possible outcomes," said Cr Abboud.

As a key stakeholder, Council will continue to strongly advocate to the State Government for consultation with the Moreland community on the next stages of the project.
