A powerful and poignant exhibition that provides an artist's insight into overcoming the physical and psychological challenges of living with a disability will open at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery in Nowra next weekend.

Award winning Crescent Heads artist, Carly Marchment lives with Muscular dystrophy and her Legacy of Lines - Bundanon Series explores themes of personal growth, resilience, and the challenges of mobility in life and art.

Ms Marchment's autobiographical collection of oil paintings and charcoal drawings was developed during a residency at Bundanon in November 2024 and offers an unflinching and tender insight into her evolving journey with the degenerative disability.

"Art has the power to open our eyes to experiences we might never fully understand and an exhibition like this is vital because it helps challenge stereotypes, sparks empathy, and reminds us that creativity thrives in every circumstance," said Mayor, Patricia White.

"This exhibition tackles themes of discrimination and connection and invites us to pause and reflect on what it means to live with a disability. I'd encourage everyone to come and experience this powerful exhibition," Cr White said.

Ms Marchment was selected as one of five artists for the 2024 Accessible Arts and Bundanon Trust Artist-In-Residence Program.

"Through this exhibition, I aim to present an authentic representation of an artist living with disability who leads and advocates through their creative practice," Ms Marchment said.

Legacy of Lines - Bundanon Series opens at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery on Saturday 29 November and runs until Saturday 14 February 2026.
