New Faces Join Agri Sector Advisory Committee

The East Gippsland Agricultural Sector Advisory Committee (ASAC) has welcomed a new cohort of members, marking an exciting new chapter in Council's engagement with the region's agricultural sector.

At its meeting on 20 August, seven new individual members and a representative from the Gippsland Agricultural Group joined the Committee, bringing fresh perspectives, broad experience, and renewed energy to ASAC's strategic advisory role. Each new member shared their background and passion for agriculture, setting a strong foundation for collaboration in the years ahead.

ASAC plays a vital role in advising Council on issues that matter to East Gippsland's farming industries and rural communities. The Committee provides strategic insights that guide Council's policy direction, advocacy, and support for the agricultural sector.

Key topics discussed at the meeting included:

the economic implications of offshore renewable energy projects in Gippsland

a review of ASAC's performance and structure

drought preparedness and resilience, sparked by a recent visit from Tom McIntosh MP

the importance of mental health support in rural communities and

ongoing concerns around pest animal management, with members highlighting the need for stronger advocacy and coordinated action.
