New flood warnings for Upton-upon-Severn to help communities

  • New flood warnings now available for communities in Upton-upon-Severn
  • Helping people to be better prepared
  • The risk of flooding to these areas has not increased and will not affect insurance

Flooding is dangerous and can happen very quickly. The effects can be devastating. The ability to take action to protect properties and move belongings to safer areas is vital to communities and the flood warning system is the most effective way to communicate impending risk.

Last winter we saw some of the highest levels ever recorded across the West Midlands including the third highest level ever recorded at Saxon's Lode, a level of 5.49m. This has only been surpassed by the flood events of 2007 and 1947.

These new warnings do not show a change in flood risk for these communities, they mean we can give people better, more targeted information about when flooding may happen.

The new warnings cover:

  • River Lugg at Eyton and the Broads
  • River Lugg at Kenwater
  • River Severn at Upton-upon-Severn including Church Street, High Street, Lancaster Close
  • River Severn at Ryall including properties in the Beeches and Ryall meadow

It is important to note that there has been no increase in the risk of flooding to these properties and this new flood warning will not affect insurance premiums.

It is important that everyone knows if their property or business is at risk of flooding and it is a simple and quick process to find out.
