The Murray Downs community can now enjoy their brand-new boat ramp, with the facility officially opening this week thanks to funding from the NSW Government.
Transport for NSW Maritime has helped to deliver the new Boat Ramp with a $1.14 million grant, improving access for boaters on the Murray River.
Transport for NSW Maritime Executive Director Mark Hutchings says he's happy to invest in accessible boating with this new boat ramp.
"The Murray River is the lifeblood of southern NSW and this boat ramp is an important asset for the community, providing locals and tourists with better access to the river," said Mr Hutchings.
"We are committed to providing boaters with boat ramp facilities that improve access and enjoyment of our waterways right across the state."
"Boating access is not just confined to the east coast, but also our inland waterway and reservoirs."
Boaters in the surrounding communities will be able to utilise the new boat ramp in all water levels, which experiences significant fluctuations caused by rainfall within the greater catchment area of the Murray-Darling Basin.
The boat ramp alignment has been designed to accommodate the river flow direction for the safe launch and retrieval of vessels.
The new facility also meets the needs of the growing boating communities along the Murray River by providing a new boating facility in a green field location.
Murray River Council mayor, Cr John Harvie said the upgrades will be welcomed by both locals and visitors.
"Over the summer and long weekends, the population in our area more than trebles with tourists accessing the river for recreational and water sporting activities."
"The new infrastructure will ensure the influx of tourists is met with attractive surrounds, whilst also ensuring our local residents have facilities they can be proud of."
"This is something the Murray Downs community have been advocating for some time, so we are pleased to now have this important project delivered with the support of the NSW Government."
The Murray Downs boat ramp can be accessed via the new Riverside Estate located approximately 1.4 km's along Murray Downs Drive from Swan Hill Road.
Further directional signage to the ramp is in place within the estate along Kingfisher Boulevard and Boobook Crescent.
