New NAPLAN Era Begins

NT Government

Since 2008, NAPLAN has provided important data for Territory students, parents, teachers and schools, on student literacy and numeracy achievements.

Schools and families have already received their 2023 NAPLAN results, and today the overall NAPLAN report has been released.

This year has seen a number of changes to the NAPLAN model, with tests undertaken in Term one, instead of Term two, and now being completed online.

This places clearer information and data in teacher's hands earlier in the year, to support students and ensure they are provided an education suited to them as soon as possible.

The reporting of individual results has also changed from ten bands, to four proficiency levels.

Those proficiency levels being;

1. Exceeding

2. Strong

3. Developing, and

4. Needs Additional Support

This year, we saw NAPLAN participation rates increase across each year level in the Territory.

10,400 students across years 3, 5, 7, and 9 undertook NAPLAN in 2023, up to 1,248 of those students are categorised as "Exceeding", with our strongest results coming within the "Spelling" category.
