New Racing Integrity Commissioner

VIC Premier

Experienced legal and racing industry executive Terrie Benfield has been appointed as the next Victorian Racing Integrity Commissioner.

Minister for Racing Anthony Carbines today congratulated Ms Benfield on her five-year appointment, starting this week.

Ms Benfield is currently the Executive General Manager Corporate (General Counsel) at Greyhound Racing Victoria and has been a key figure in the Victorian racing industry for nearly a decade.

Ms Benfield brings significant experience in legal and regulatory frameworks, having held several executive positions in the public service - including working with the Department of Education and Training and the Victorian Government Solicitors Office.

Ms Benfield will replace Elissa Watson who has been acting in the role since December last year following Sean Carroll's resignation.

The independent Office of the Racing Integrity Commissioner monitors integrity issues across thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing in Victoria.

It also oversees the integrity systems and processes of Racing Victoria, Harness Racing Victoria and Greyhound Racing Victoria.

As stated by Minister for Racing Anthony Carbines

"Victoria has long been the home of Australian racing, and the role of the Racing Integrity Commissioner is essential to safeguarding its integrity."

"Terrie Benfield is highly respected within the Victorian racing industry, and she will bring a wealth of regulatory experience to the role. I also thank Elissa Watson for acting in the role for the past six months."
