NEW SHOPPER CAR PARK TO AID EASTWOOD'S ECONOMIC RECOVERY
The City of Ryde continues to invest in the local economic recovery with work soon to commence on the new shopper car park on Rowe Street East in Eastwood.
The tender to construct the new car park was awarded to Belmadar Pty Ltd at Tuesday's Council meeting, after the Sydney North Planning Panel approved the development application in lat e 2019.
Work is due to commence around October/November and be completed in mid -2021.
The new multi -storey shopper car park will be located at 53 -71 Rowe Stree t. It will be able to accommodate 1 46 car space s and include a small pop -up retail space once completed.
City of Ryde Mayor, Clr Jerome Laxale, said the multi -million dollar project would deliver enormous economic benefits for Eastwood and the City of Ryde as a whole.
"The new shopper car park on Rowe Street East will create jobs, fix chronic p arking shortages and entice people back to Eastwood when it is needed most," Clr Laxale said.
"Eastwood has been one of the town centres hardest hit by the coronavirus (COVID -19) pandemic with some businesses reporting between 50 and 80 percent drop in turn over. Crucially, this car park will be a key component in Eastwood's economic recovery as we gradually emerge from this crisis.
"Since the COVID -19 pandemic began, this Council has been determined to invest in key projects that will help the local economy and the new Rowe Street East shopper car park joins a range of initiatives that we have introduced to help everyone get through this extremely challenging period."
The final design for the new car p ark incorporates f eedback that was received during Council's community consultation, including sustainable features such as electric vehicle chargers.
Council is also looking at appropriate car park time limits and other options to manage turnover of car spaces to support local businesses in Eastwood.
