New strategy to support city's youth

A strategy to support and encourage youth was adopted by Wodonga Council at its September meeting.

Covering leadership and advocacy, strategic partnerships, capacity building and programs, events and activities, the Wodonga Youth Strategy 2019-2023 will provide a platform to assist the council to work with young people and stakeholders to improve outcomes.

The strategy identifies a range of objectives and actions in each of the focus areas to ensure the needs of Wodonga's youth are addressed.

It will also raise the importance and awareness of the issues facing young people in Wodonga as they transition into young adulthood.

Councillor Danny Lowe said the strategy was important as it focused on youth talking about youth problems and the generation was bright enough to come up with own solutions.

Mayor Cr Anna Speedie said it was an innovative way of getting young people to talk to Wodonga Council.

She also said it provided way to allow of youngest people to engage and give a voice to the future.

Implementation of the youth strategy will help improve outcomes in the key priority areas and the wellbeing of young people in Wodonga.

The strategy also reinforces council's role as a leader in creating better health and wellbeing opportunities for everyone.
