Two Rockhampton parks will receive new playground equipment, making play safer and more inclusive for kids in the community.
Works begin at Anderson Park in Wandal today, Monday, 9 February, with the new playground replacing old equipment.
The project is part of Rockhampton Regional Council's playground renewal program.
The new playground will replace the old equipment with a new structure, which will include a hammock swing suitable for all ages and abilities.
The playground will also feature interactive play panels, a climbing frame, slides, shade structure and seating.
Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the improvements would help keep play safe for residents.
"The improvements will include new slides, an inclusive swing and climbing equipment," Cr Rutherford said.
"We're really proud this playground will also include upgrades so people of all abilities will be able to play on the equipment.
"Upgrades like this are important to extend the life of our playgrounds and to keep them safe for everyone to use."
Works have also begun to replace the old and deteriorating playground structure at Duthie Park in Frenchville.
The new playground will include new slides, monkey bars and climbing equipment.
The existing rubber softfall will also be replaced with sand and a fence will be installed around the playground.
Divisional Councillor Elliot Hilse said improvements to the playground would be welcomed by residents.
"Duthie Park is a popular gathering place for the community," Cr Hilse said.
"I'm sure children and families in the area are already looking forward to exploring the new playground, once the upgrades are complete."
Playgrounds at both Duthie Park and Anderson Park will be closed while the works are being done, with the rest of the park remaining open.
