New year, new look Labor Shadow Cabinet

Tasmanian Labor
  • Sarah Lovell takes crucial Child Safety portfolio as Commission of Inquiry prepares to launch
  • Dr Bastian Seidel new Shadow Health Minister
  • Strong Labor team committed to working for Tasmania
  • Labor Leader Rebecca White has unveiled a new Shadow Cabinet with Huon Legislative Council Member Bastian Seidel assuming responsibility for Health and Rumney MLC Sarah Lovell taking on the Child Safety portfolio.

Ms White said Dr Seidel's experience as a GP and a former President of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and Clinical Professor at the University of Tasmania, was the perfect fit to take on Health and hold the government to account for the ongoing crisis it has created in the state's health system over the past seven years.

Ms White said Ms Lovell would have a clear focus on the ongoing crisis in Child Safety, particularly on the eve of theCommission of Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse.

"I am fortunate to have an enormous depth of talent in the Labor team and these changes really play to our strengths," Ms White said.

"Labor's focus is on ensuring that the state does not simply return to normal after the pandemic, because normal wasn't good enough for too many Tasmanians.

"We need to get more people into jobs, we need to improve the health system and we need to ensure our children get the skills they need for the future."
