Newcastle mother charged with murder in baby's death

A mother from the Newcastle suburb of Wallsend has been charged with the murder of her six-week-old baby after the girl was found with fatal stab wounds this morning, NSW police said.

About 9am Friday, emergency services were called  to a house in Curry Street, Wallsend, after a six-week-old girl was found deceased at the property. 

The woman was arrested at the property and taken to Waratah Police Station.

She has since been charged with murder and refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Saturday.
