Casey Hospital's $135 million redevelopment is reaching the final stages of construction with the external signage being installed on the new tower by a team of abseilers.
Minister for Health Jenny Mikakos visited the site this week to view the signage and tour recently completed patient recovery areas within the new tower.
Over the past 15 years Casey Hospital has been progressively expanded and redeveloped to cater for the local community - the eighth-fastest growing municipality in Australia.
The redevelopment will consist of 128 new inpatient beds and the hospital's first intensive care unit in the new clinical tower, as well as six new operating theatres, a new day surgery unit, along with an upgraded pharmacy, pathology, back-of-house areas and expanded parking facilities.
The new intensive care unit will mean Casey Hospital is able to treat critically ill patients who present through the emergency department, rather than sending them to other Monash Health hospitals.
The full Casey expansion includes 160 additional beds and will enable Casey Hospital to treat an extra 25,800 patients, perform an extra 8000 surgeries and procedures and support an extra 1,300 births every year.
The new signage marks the completion of most of the services in the tower, with the final stage – the 12-bed day surgery unit due for completion in early 2020.
The Casey Hospital expansion is the latest example of the Andrews Labor Government delivering more health services for Melbourne's outer south east and improving access to critical care closer to home.
The Labor Government's massive $2.5 billion boost in the 2019/20 budget to run Victoria's hospitals will help meet the needs of our growing state, meaning that more patients than ever are receiving high quality care.
