Ninth Charged in Kidnapping, Marvin Oraiha Murder Probe

Taskforce Falcon detectives have charged a ninth person as they continue to investigate the alleged kidnapping and separate murder of Marvin Oraiha in Sydney's west in 2023.

About 4pm on Monday 22 May, emergency services were called to Hertfordshire Street, Elizabeth Hills, following reports of a shooting.

On arrival, officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command located a 24-year-old man suffering several gunshot wounds.

Despite the efforts of police and NSW Ambulance paramedics, the man died at the scene.

He has since been identified as Marvin Oraiha.

Liverpool detectives – with assistance from the Homicide Squad – commenced inquiries, before State Crime Command's Criminal Groups Squad took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Hackenburg.

Strike Force Hackenburg was previously overseen by Taskforce Magnus and now falls under Taskforce Falcon.

Detectives have charged six people over the alleged murder of Marvin Oraiha. They all remain before the courts.

Investigations established that before Mr Oraiha was fatally shot, he was allegedly kidnapped by an Organised Criminal Network (OCN) months earlier, on Wednesday 31 March 2023.

It will be alleged that Mr Oraiha was detained overnight at a unit in Belfield, during which time demands for payment of a ransom were made.

Two people have been charged with kidnapping offences and remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, about 2.30pm on Friday 14 August 2026, strike force detectives – with assistance from Queensland Police – arrested a 40-year-old man in Elanora, on the Gold Coast.

He was taken to Southport Police Station, where NSW Police applied for his extradition, which was granted.

The 40-year-old was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station, where he was charged with take/detain in company with intention to ransom occasion actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Local Court 1 on Saturday 15 August 2026, where he was formally refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 7 October 2026.
