No shelter for the Yelta pelter

A 25-year-old man has had his motorcycle impounded after he was allegedly spotted travelling at excessive speed in Yelta this morning, Victoria Police say.

Mildura Highway Patrol members observed the Suzuki travelling north on the Calder Highway about 8.30am.

Police allegedly detected the Mildura motorcyclist riding at a speed of 171km/h in a 100km/h speed zone.

At the time, it was pelting with rain and it’s understood that 15mm fell in the area within one hour.

It’s alleged the rider was the holder of a suspended West Australian motorcycle licence.

The motorcycle was impounded for 30 days and the man will have to pay $1280 towing and storage costs to collect it.

He was bailed to appear at the Mildura Magistrates’ Court on 8 March charged with speed dangerous, exceeding the speed limit and unlicensed driving.
