No to Violence response to VAGO report on Managing Support and Safety Hubs

No to Violence

No to Violence welcomes today's tabling of the Victorian Auditor-General's Office (VAGO) report on the management of Support and Safety Hubs and is committed to working with the Victorian Government to further refine the future implementation of the Orange Doors to keep women and children safe.

The report found Hubs are improving the way agencies work together but are not yet realising their full potential to help people. The report also found that Hub practitioners do not agree on how to integrate perpetrator services with other services.

No to Violence – Australia's largest peak body for delivering safe and effective interventions for men who use violence and Men's Referral Service provider – has worked hard with its members and Family Safety Victoria to establish hubs. However, there needs to be a stronger collaboration between Government and the sector to ensure men are dealt with more consistently.

"We know the journey for major change can be difficult, and the VAGO report offers constructive findings on how to further improve the rollout of the Support and Safety Hubs or Orange Door," said Jacqui Watt, Chief Executive Officer.

"No to Violence will continue to work with the Government in the implementation of the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Family Violence, including the roll-out of the Support and Safety Hubs. In particular, we must work with Orange Door practitioners and Family Safety Victoria on how to integrate perpetrator services into the model.

"We know offering coordinated support to people who have experienced family violence is essential to ensuring their safety and helping them along their recovery.

"An important part of this is working with men who use violence to support them engaging in programs to change their abusive behaviour – preventing the cycle of violence.

"No to Violence will continue to work closely with the family violence sector and Victorian Government to create a system which effectively engages and intervenes with men who use family violence to help keep women and children safe."
