Nominate Local Heroes for 2025 Australia Day Honors

Tweed Shire Council

Tweed Shire Council is calling on the community to shine a light on local legends for the 2025 Australia Day Awards, with nominations open now and closing Friday 10 October 2025.

The annual awards highlight individuals and groups who go above and beyond – giving back, excelling in their field, creating positive change and making the Tweed an easy place to live and love.

Mayor of Tweed Shire Chris Cherry said the awards are a reminder that every great community is built on the quiet efforts of its people.

"You don't need to be an Olympian to be nominated. Small actions can have a big impact," Cr Cherry said.

"These awards are about recognising the everyday people who make our community stronger through their cultural, volunteer and sporting efforts. A simple nomination can be a powerful way to say thank you and well done."

There are 9 awards across 7 categories, including:

· Citizen of the Year

· Volunteer of the Year (individual and group awards)

· Sporting Achievement (individual and group awards)

· Arts and Culture

· Community Event of the Year

· Young Achiever in Community Service

· Senior Ambassador.

The launch of nominations for the awards is part of Local Government Week 2025. Winners will be announced at a special ceremony on Friday 23 January 2026, alongside Council's citizenship celebrations.
