Nominate Local Legend For 2026 Australia Day Awards

Nominations open Friday, 5 September 2025 for the 2026 Australia Day Local Government Awards and Council is encouraging everyone in the community to recognise the outstanding individuals, groups, and events that make a real difference.

Council's Mayor Cr Stuart King said these awards are our way of shining a light on the people who go above and beyond to make our towns stronger, kinder, and more connected.

"Whether it's through volunteering, leadership, or staging exceptional community events, these contributions play a vital role in shaping the character and spirit of our region, and they deserve to be celebrated," he said.

The awards feature three categories:

  • Australia Day Citizen Award – for nominees aged 30 or over.
  • Young Citizen Award – for nominees under 30.
  • Community Event of the Year Award – for an individual or group that delivered an outstanding community event during 2025, bringing people together and leaving a lasting impact.

Cr King said every year he is inspired by the calibre of nominations received.

"The nominations showcase the generosity, talent, and dedication that exists throughout our community, and highlight why our region is such a special place to live," Cr King said.

Nominations close at 5pm on Thursday, 20 November 2025. Residents can submit their nominations online via the Let's Talk page at letstalk.swanhill.vic.gov.au
