Georges River Council is calling on all local history enthusiasts to submit their nominations for the 2025 Historical Markers Program!
The program, which began in 2018, recognises and celebrates people and places of historical and cultural significance within the Georges River area. It also aims to create awareness of the history, heritage, and cultural identity of the Georges River area, fostering a strong sense of identity and belonging within the community.
The markers highlight key locations representing people, places and moments of local significance, and provides an open-air archive for community to tour throughout the LGA.
Each year, the Council funds and installs up to five new historical markers based on community recommendations. This is a unique opportunity for residents to nominate moments in history and represent cultural heritage of their community.
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, "The Historical Markers Program is a wonderful initiative that allows us to honour the rich history and cultural heritage of the Georges River area.
"I encourage our community to take this opportunity to nominate significant people and places that have shaped our community. Your participation helps us preserve and celebrate our shared history for future generations."
Nominations close on Sunday 11 May 2025 and can be made via Council's Historical Markers Annual Program Your Say webpage.
