Nominations are now open to acknowledge inspiring locals with a 2026 Australia Day Award.

Nominations will be accepted until November 9 in the categories of Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year, and Young Sportsperson of the Year.

Mayor Tom Kennedy said the Australia Day Awards help recognise the individuals who help improve our community and make life better for fellow residents.

"It's important to celebrate the people who have made significant contributions to our community and our way of life," said Mayor Kennedy.

"By recognizing these people's efforts we can inspire others and help further strengthen our amazing community spirit here in Broken Hill.

"We have plenty of locals who give so much back to our community, so please take a moment to submit a nomination to ensure their contributions are recognised."
