Non-Stop Greyhound Action At Sandown Park

The Andrews Labor Government is helping greyhound enthusiasts take part in racing action at Sandown this weekend as part of the Speed Star Super Sunday event on Sunday, 16 September.

The Labor Government is providing almost $15,000 from its Victorian Racing Industry Fund towards the twilight race meeting, as part of a $43,000 joint funding package.

The evening will feature 20 head-to-head races in rapid succession, with only eight minutes between each race.

Alongside the racing there will be a variety of on-course entertainment, including live music by Rosie & Dom, a children’s games room with activities and face painting, and a tipping competition.

Racegoers can enjoy complimentary finger food throughout the evening and share in a range of Speed Star merchandise and other giveaways.

Sandown Greyhound Racing Club is providing more than $28,000 towards the night.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has provided more than $862,000 to support two infrastructure projects and 26 greyhound racing events at Sandown Park.

The racing industry in metropolitan Melbourne generates more than $1.5 billion for the Victorian economy annually and helps to sustain more than 13,590 full-time equivalent jobs locally.

As stated by Minister for Racing Martin Pakula

"The 2018 Speed Star Super Sunday is an innovative race meeting, which is about attracting even more people to the greyhound racing industry."

"We’re supporting greyhound racing events across Victoria because they help boost tourism and provide local jobs."

As stated by Sandown Greyhound Racing Club Chief Executive Officer Greg Miller

"The 2018 Speed Star Super Sunday will provide a great afternoon of non-stop greyhound racing action and quality entertainment."
