Darebin Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a theft and subsequent use of a stolen credit card in Northcote earlier this month.
Investigators have been told a wallet was stolen from a vehicle parked in Gordon Grove between 3am and 5am on 15 November.
The victim's card was then used at a service station in Fitzroy North about 6am.
Police have released an image of a man they wish to speak with in relation to the incident.
He is described as aged between 20yo and 35yo, about 185cms tall, solid build and dark hair.
