The Northern Rivers Rail Trail (NRRT) has been awarded Gold in Tourist Attractions and Silver in Adventure Tourism at the 2025 NSW Tourism Awards, recognising its unique blend of leisure and adventure experiences.
The awards were held at the NSW Tourism Gala Night at Waterview in Bicentennial Park, in Sydney on Thursday 27 November, celebrating excellence across the state’s tourism industry.
NRRT Regional Lead Dean Cooper said the recognition reflects the trail’s broad appeal and growing impact.
“Winning Gold in Tourist Attractions and Silver in Adventure Tourism shows how the Rail Trail is resonating with a wide range of visitors,” Dean said.
“Whether you're here for a relaxed day out or a multi-day cycling adventure, the trail offers something truly special.”
This year, the Rail Trail team focused on expanding and refining the visitor experience, guided by community input and a commitment to continuous improvement. Accessibility upgrades, new wayfinding, and activations have helped make the trail more inclusive and engaging.
The team’s response to Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred was also recognised, with commendations for clear communication and rapid clean-up efforts that ensured the trail remained safe and welcoming.
“We’re proud to be part of a region that values connection to nature, to history, and to each other,” Dean said.
“These awards celebrate that journey, and the people who make possible. It’s testament to the incredible work of our member councils, supporters and operators, as well as the hundreds of thousands of visitors who bring the trail to life every day.”
The Rail Trail was not the only star of the show, with plenty of Northern Rivers operators recognised, including Better By Bike, one of the Trail’s key operators, who took out Gold in the Tourism Retail, Hire and Services category.
