Kingston Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for information following a burglary in Moorabbin earlier this month, Victoria Police say.
Investigators have been told a man entered a shopping precinct on Centre Dandenong Road about 9.50am on 5 October.
While inside, he gained entry to a closed shaving store via a roller door and took two cash registers before fleeing.
The man was disturbed by a passer-by as he tried to leave the centre before dropping the registers and running on foot.
Police have released an image of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
He has been described as being Caucasian with a thin build and was wearing black pants, a grey and white jacket and black Nike cap.
The man was also carrying a black and white CamelBak-type bag.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
