Notice to appear - Traffic offences - Arnhem Land

Northern Territory Police have issued a 50-year-old man with a notice to appear in court for traffic offences.

Officers from the Dog Operations Unit sighted a vehicle travelling with no registration plates in Arnhem Land at around 9:20am on Wednesday 29 April. Police attempted to apprehend the vehicle when it failed to stop at a stop sign.

Police allege the vehicle accelerated to 110km/h in a 90km/h zone and attempted to avoid apprehension by turning into bushland. The occupants then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

The 50-year-old man was located in bushland approximately ninety minutes later.

He was issued a notice to appear in court for:

  • drive vehicle manner dangerous - pursuit
  • drive vehicle while unlicensed
  • drive vehicle unsafe
  • causing damage to road surface
  • drive vehicle causing loss of traction
  • cross double lines where not permitted
  • fail to obey direction of police officer
  • not stop at stop sign.

Police seized the man's vehicle for 48 hours under the provisions of anti-hooning legislation.
