NRMA Warns of Summer Surge in Home Break-ins

NRMA Insurance's top tips to help protect your home this holiday period:

  • Keep valuable outdoor items such as bikes and power tools in a secure location.
  • Keep doors, windows, gates, sheds and garages securely locked, so a physical barrier is created, making it that much harder for would-be thieves to break in.
  • Store valuables such as jewellery in a safe while away from the home.
  • Consider motion-activated sensor lights or security cameras to deter intruders. Set up timers on lights, TVs and music devices at appropriate times to make it appear someone is home.
  • Pause your deliveries like papers and magazines. Request deliveries that require a signature or choose to click-and-collect to avoid parcels being left unattended.
  • Keep small items like phones, keys and wallets out of sight and away from entry points.
