The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is urging communities across the state to prepare for several days of unsettled weather, with the potential for damaging winds and thunderstorms.
While many parts of the state have enjoyed a taste of spring weather in recent days, conditions are set to change, with a cold front forecast to bring strong winds, storms and rain from today to Thursday.
NSW SES Assistant Commissioner Dean Storey said the community should be aware and use the time now to prepare, particularly as the official Storm Season begins.
"We're anticipating a mix of strong gusty winds, rain and hail and some isolated flooding through the week," Assistant Commissioner Storey said.
"To minimise the impacts of downed trees or damage from flying debris, it's important that people secure loose items around their homes and stay informed by using the Hazards Near Me app or visiting the NSW SES website. A little preparation now helps us all stay safer when floods and storms hit."
There is a chance of destructive winds in excess of 120 kilometres per hour in the far west on Tuesday, and across central or northern areas on Wednesday.
While damaging winds on the southern and central ranges will ease today, they may return to the east and north of the state on Wednesday and Thursday.
The heaviest rain is expected across the Central West on Tuesday and the southern half of the coast on Wednesday, with widespread rainfall totals of 20 to 50 millimetres, and isolated totals of 60 to 100 millimetres possible along the coast.
The NSW SES is reminding communities to never drive, walk or ride through floodwater and to call 132 500 for emergency help in a flood or storm. In life-threatening situations, always call Triple Zero (000).
