NSW man arrested after police memorial desecrated again

A male has been arrested after further damage was caused to the NSW Police Memorial in Hyde Park yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 6.40pm yesterday today, following information received from members of the public, police arrested a 30-year-old man in the vicinity of the pedestrian overpass at the Domain.

The man was arrested in relation to the damage of the NSW Police Memorial which was occasioned on Friday (20 May 2016).

The man allegedly resisted arrest and was taken to Day Street Police Station. While being conveyed he allegedly caused a rear window in the police caged truck to shatter by kicking it.

Due to possible medical conditions, about 11pm the man was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital, where he remains.

About 11.15pm, police attended the NSW Police Memorial in Hyde Park and found black graffiti on the panels and the ground in front of the memorial.

A crime scene was established which was examined by forensic specialists. Police are hopeful the graffiti will be able to be removed this morning.

Police believe this incident to be linked to the incident on Friday, and charges are expected when the 30-year-old man is released from hospital.
