NSW man arrested after standoff

Police are waiting to interview a man who is in hospital after a standoff at Raymond Terrace overnight, NSW Police say.

Police from Port Stephens Local Area Command were called to Clyde Circuit at Raymond Terrace about 5pm yesterday tomorrow, responding to reports a man had allegedly breached an AVO.

The 32-year-old man allegedly refused to come out of the house when requested by police; a perimeter was established and negotiations commenced.

About 7.30pm the man was arrested – with the assistance of a Police Dog – when he ran from the building.

The man was taken to John Hunter Hospital where he is being treated for an injury to his left forearm, sustained when he was bitten by the Police Dog during the arrest.

A crime scene was established. Police have seized a number of knives and swords from the premises.

The man has not yet been interviewed. Charges are pending.

Detectives from Port Stephens Local Area command are investigating.
