NSW man charged after assaulting officer

Police have charged a man following an alleged assault on a police officer in Sydney’s south west earlier this week.

At 6.15pm on (30 June 2016), officers attached to Police Transport Command spoke to a man at Liverpool Railway Station after he failed to produce a valid ticket.

Police arrested the 30-year-old man where it be alleged he tripped the male officer causing him to fall to the ground. Whilst on the ground, the man kicked the male officer to the face.

Officers from the Liverpool Local Area Command attended a short time after to assist.

The male officer was conveyed to Liverpool District Hospital.

The man was taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was arrested for the following offences; assault officer in execution of duty, travel or attempt to travel without a valid ticket, destroy or damage property; assault police officer in the execution of duty cause abh, resist officer execution of duty.

He will appear at Liverpool Local Court on Friday 8 July 2016.
