NSW man charged following investigations into fatal crash at Barden Ridge

A man has been charged following investigations into a fatal crash that occurred in Barden Ridge last month, NSW Police say.

About 4.30pm on Monday 16 May, 2016, a Hino truck travelling north on New Illawarra Road collided with the rear of a sedan that was stationary at a set of traffic lights at the intersection of New Illawarra Road and Ella Avenue.

A 77-year-old female passenger seated in the rear of the sedan died at the scene while the driver and front passenger, both aged 73, suffered multiple fractures and were taken to St George Hospital where they were treated.

A 30-year-old man was issued with a notice to attend court for the following offences

  • Dangerous driving occasioning death
  • Negligent driving occasioning death
  • Dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm
  • Cause bodily harm by misconduct (x2)
  • Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
  • Negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm

His licence has been suspended and he is due to appear at Sutherland Local Court on 1 September 2016.
