NSW man charged over 52 graffiti-related offences

Police have charged a man with 52 graffiti-related offences committed in the Sydney region, NSW Police say.

In March 2016, officers from Police Transport Command commenced investigating several acts of malicious damage and graffiti upon public transport.

Police will allege the offences occurred between 2013 and 2016, with an estimated damage bill of more than $100,000.

About 7.30am today, police attended a home on Charles Street, Leichhardt, and arrested a 20-year-old man.

He was taken to Newtown Police Station and charged with 52 offences including:

- Destroy/damage property in company (x12);

- Enter building/land with intent to commit indictable offence (x12);

- Destroy or damage property (x11);

- Face blackened/disguised with intent to commit indictable offence (x11);

- Do act with intent to detail/damage railway rolling stock (x2); and,

- Cause obstruction to railway locomotive or rolling stock (x4).

The man was refused bail to face Newtown Local Court today where he was granted conditional bail to reappear at the Downing Centre Local Court on 15 September 2016.

Inquiries are ongoing.
