NSW man charged over sexual assault of young child

A man has been charged with the alleged sexual assault of a young child in the Shoalhaven region, NSW Police say.

On Tuesday 7 June 2016, detectives from State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad commenced an investigation following a report a child had been sexually assaulted.

Following inquiries, investigators executed a search warrant at a home near Nowra yesterday.

During the search, officers located and seized computers, hard drives, thumb drives, and other electronic storage devices, which police will allege contained child abuse material.

Police also located and seized an air pistol.

A 68-year-old man was arrested at the location and taken to Nowra Police Station, where he was charged with sexual intercourse with a child under 10 years, two counts of use child under 14 years to make child abuse material, and possess child abuse material.

He appeared at Nowra Local Court today, where he was refused bail to reappear on Tuesday 19 July 2016.

Inquiries are continuing.

The Child Abuse Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate crimes against children, including sexual assault, physical abuse and serious cases of neglect.
