NSW man charged with drink driving and firearms offences

A man will appear in court next month after being charged with drink-driving and firearms offences following a domestic incident at Port Stephens overnight, NSW Police say.

Police believe that a 44-year-old man was involved in a domestic argument with a relative at a home in Stockton Street during the evening of Saturday 21 May 2016.

About 9.30pm police from Port Stephens Local Area Command spoke to the man in Shoal Bay Road at Shoal Bay as he stood close to his motor vehicle.

The man was arrested after refusing to undergo a roadside breath test.

Police then searched the man’s motor vehicle and located a shotgun and 150 rounds of ammunition.

These items were seized and the man was conveyed to Raymond Terrace Police Station where he underwent a breath analysis returning a reading of 0.159.

He was charged with high range drink driving, not keep firearm safe and handle or use firearm while under the influence of alcohol.

A suspension notice was issued to the man for his drivers and firearms licences.

A provisional apprehended domestic violence order has been applied for and investigations into the matter are continuing.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on 7 June 2016.
