NSW man charged with nine drug and firearm offences in state's south west

A man will appear in court today after being charged with nine alleged drug and firearm offences, following a vehicle stop in the state’s south west yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 12.40pm today, officers from Barrier Local Area Command stopped a Holden sedan travelling west on the Sturt Highway at Gol Gol for a random roadside breath test.

The driver returned a negative reading; however, it will be alleged when police searched the vehicle they located a shortened single-barrel shotgun, shotgun shells, and ecstasy.

The 27-year-old driver and his 20-year-old male passenger were arrested and taken to Dareton Police Station.

The driver was charged with nine offences:

- Possess unregistered firearm in public place;

- Possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority;

- Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority;

- Possess unauthorised firearm;

- Possess unregistered firearm-not prohibited firearm/pistol; and,

- Two counts of supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity, not cannabis).

He has been refused bail to appear at Wentworth Bail Court today tomorrow.

The passenger was released pending further inquiries.
