NSW Police continue to have a heightened presence on our roads as Operation Safe Arrival continues, NSW Police say.
Operation Safe Arrival, the State’s Christmas and New Year road safety campaign, started at 12.01am on Friday 15 December, and will continue until 11.59pm on Monday 1 January 2018.
There are more police on roads targeting drivers for dangerous behaviours that may result in loss of life on our roads, including; speeding, drink and drug-driving, mobile phone use, and not wearing seatbelts, and double demerits apply throughout the duration of the operation.
Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy of the Traffic & Highway Patrol Command, said three people died on NSW roads on day two of Operation Safe Arrival, with two women and a man killed after single vehicle crashes near Griffith, Yeoval and North St Marys.
That is a staggering number of wives, husbands, sons or daughters that won’t be returning home this festive season," Assistant Commissioner Corboy said.
Some examples of inappropriate driver behaviour detected during Day two of Operation Safe Arrival include,
- Officers were patrolling Lysaght Street, Fairy Meadow, when they stopped a Honda Odyssey for the purposes of a random breath test. Police checks revealed the driver, a 40-year-old male, was disqualified until 2029. He was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 6 February 2018.
- About 6.40pm yesterday (Saturday 16 December 2017), a 47-year-old man returned a positive result to a roadside breath test. He was taken to Ashfield Police Station where he allegedly returned a breath analysis of 0.133. His two-year-old son was in the vehicle at the time. The man was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice to appear at Burwood Local Court on Tuesday 9 January 2018. His licence was suspended immediately.
- About 2.20am yesterday (Saturday 16 December 2017), a 26-year-old man, driving a Toyota Aurion, crashed into a tree on Broughton Street, Campbelltown. Officers from Campbelltown Local Area Command attended and arrested the man. He was taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he allegedly returned a breath analysis of 0.151. He was charged with high range PCA and negligent driving. His licence was confiscated. The 26-year-old is due to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on Monday 8 January 2018.
