NSW police charge man over aggravated break & enters and Maserati theft

A man will appear in court tomorrow charged with several offences including aggravated break and enter and being carried in a stolen Maserati, NSW Police say.

Shortly after 9am today, police from Ashfield Highway Patrol observed a 20-year-old man travelling as a passenger in a taxi on Victoria Street at Lewisham.

As the officers attempted to stop the taxi, police will allege that the man ran from the cab and a foot pursuit commenced.

Police including officers from Redfern Region Enforcement Squad, Marrickville Local Area Command, the Dog Squad and other HWP officers established a perimeter and eventually located the man on rooftops in Sadlier Crescent at Petersham.

About 9.25am the man was arrested without incident by police and taken to Newtown Police Station.

He was charged with numerous offences including an aggravated break and enter (Burwood), police pursuit and driving whilst disqualified (Lewisham) on the 2 August, and being carried in a conveyance (Maserati) stolen from an aggravated break and enter (Vaucluse) on 9 August 2016.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Newtown Local Court tomorrow.

Investigations into a number of other aggravated break and enter offences where high performance vehicles have been stolen continue.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
