NSW police probe after body found in water

A report will be prepared for the Coroner, following the location of the body of a man in water in Port Macquarie this afternoon, NSW Police say.

About 4pm today, emergency services were called to water near Tacking Point Lighthouse, on Lighthouse Drive, following the discovery of a body in the water.

On arrival, police from Port Macquarie Local Area Command with the assistance of surf lifesavers found and retrieved the body of a man, who is yet to be formally identified.

A crime scene has been established and investigations are continuing, however, man’s death is not being treated as suspicious.

Initial investigations suggest the man slipped on rocks while fishing and failed to resurface.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
