NSW police probe after boy dies

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner following the apparent drowning death of a boy on the state’s Mid North Coast today, NSW Police say.

Just after 10.30am today, emergency services were called to Nobby Beach, Port Macquarie, following reports of a body in the water.

Police have been told a group of males were seen jumping from rocks into the water.

Emergency services attended and, with the assistance of Surf Life Saving, retrieved two boys – aged 14 and 15 – from the water.

The 14-year-old boy died at the scene.

The 15-year-old boy was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics and taken to Port Macquarie Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Officers from Mid North Coast Local Area Command will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
