Police are investigating after a woman was fatally hit by a car in Emu Plains this afternoon, NSW Police say.

Just after 4pm today, emergency services were called to Water Street, following reports of a pedestrian hit by a car.

A 59-year-old woman was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics at the scene, before she was taken to Nepean Hospital in a critical condition. She died a short time later.

The male driver of the car, a Toyota Camry sedan, was not injured during the incident.

He has been taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
