NSW police probe after serious crash

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a crash in Tweed Heads yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 5.30pm today, emergency services were called to the M1 motorway, 300 metres south of the Kirkwood Road off ramp.

Officers from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command attended and found a truck had collided with a white sedan. As a result of the impact, the sedan hit a nearby tree.

The driver of the sedan, a 22-year-old woman, was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with minor injuries.

The passenger of the sedan, a 22-year-old man was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The driver of the truck, a 68-year-old man was uninjured. He was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

Inquiries are continuing.
