NSW police pursuit - Lake Macquarie

A man has been arrested after a police pursuit in the Hunter Region overnight, NSW Police say.

About 12.10am today (Thursday 1 February 2018), police from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command attempted to stop Ford Falcon sedan on Minmi Road at Edgeworth.

When the vehicle failed to stop police commenced a pursuit which travelled to New Lambton Heights and then to Elermore Vale.

Road spikes were deployed for a second time on Croudace Road, Elermore Vale and a rear tyre of the vehicle was punctured.

Police terminated the pursuit shortly after due to safety concerns about the manner of driving.

Subsequently patrolling police located the vehicle near an industrial area on Tomago Road at Tomago.

After establishing a perimeter officers from Lake Macquarie, Newcastle City and Port Stephens commenced a search of the area with the assistance of a dog unit.

A short time later a 27-year-old man was arrested nearby by the dog squad officer.

The man was conveyed to John Hunter Hospital for treatment to a dog bite. He remains there under guard.

It is anticipated that he will be charged with several offences upon his release from hospital.
